The Engchoon Kuala Lumpur History Gallery

The treasure of the guild hall -

Kuala Lumpur Eng Choon Hoey Kuan Monument

This monument was built in December 1930 and is currently embedded in the brick wall inside the clubhouse. The inscription reads as follows:

“The landscape of hills and waters here is naturally beautiful, evoking thoughts of an overseas paradise, how fortunate! From now on, reflecting on its name, it should connect with hometown sentiments, jointly fulfilling the duties of public service, family and national responsibilities. Thus, it is a great honor for all involved.”

The towards, “paradise” in the sentences symbolizes Engchoon, “evoking thoughts of an overseas paradise” indicates the purpose of establishing a second Engchoon in Kuala Lumpur. This highlights how Engchoon people, even abroad, maintain a strong sense of local identity and connection
